The Ram Boutique: Author Interview – January’s Alyssa O’Sullivan

Alyssa O'SullivanAlyssa O’Sullivan – The Ram Boutique’s highlighted author for January

This week we sat down with our author from January, Alyssa O’Sullivan, to ask her a few things about herself and her writing.

1. Who are you as a person: where are you from, what do you do, what are you doing?

I live in Napa, California, in wine country, so there’s a lot of beautiful scenery and a lot of wine. I’m currently working in hospitality, but I’m also focusing a lot more on writing and drawing. I have a map of the world covering a wall in my room, and every time I look at it I see more places I want to go next. But for now I’m hanging out in California with the dog that lives at my house.

2. Your background as a writer?

A lot of what I’ve written is just sitting in my laptop and nowhere else…so I’ve got a lot of work to do. I studied Creative Writing at Kingston University, London and I’m still in a workshop with writers who I met there – we’re called ‘Adam’s Army.’ I’ve done a handful of editing, copywriting and creative writing projects, and I’m hoping to boost my portfolio in 2014.

3. Where did the idea for this piece come/how do you get inspired to write?

I really couldn’t tell you how I get inspired… I was just standing in the living room. I was staring out the window at our old Christmas tree and thought about how there were going to be spiders in it now. And then I just started writing. My ideas usually come when I’m standing or moving. For some reason.

4. Your ideal time and place to write? Explain your answers.

Anywhere, just so long as I have my laptop. Usually on my bed, because my desk is too small.

5. Why do you write?

No real reason except for that I enjoy writing. When I have an idea I’m working on, I’m in a better mood. It’s a more rewarding and mind-settling thing for me to do than watching TV or browsing the internet. Writing keeps me from being too passive, and makes me create and contribute.

Alyssa’s Views on River Ram Press: River Ram Press focuses on the writers and the writing, which is what makes them such a fun publisher to work with. They’ve got creativity everywhere, so the possibilities are great. I’m glad I get to be a part of it at the beginning.
