Light Fades

By Cassandra Iliou

I drew a breath from your lips,
It filled my chest.
My thumbs rested on your hips,
Your head soft against my breast.

Bits of leaf had found your hair,
Twigs and stones strewn everywhere,
And we didn’t care.
There were people,
And there will always be people,
And we didn’t care.

I said that you were gorgeous.
You said my hands were strong,
So I played them on your body,
And your murmur was their song.
Stars emerged in twilight fading and
Time between us seemed just waiting.
